The Academic Curriculum

Prep

In line with the GCSEs and A Levels offered in the Senior School, Junior School children follow the English National Curriculum. We teach everything from English, Mathematics and Science to Latin, Art and Music.

Our academic curriculum is designed to stretch every pupil, enabling them to reach their full potential and laying the foundations for their future studies. We believe in delivering a love of learning, a sound understanding of a broad range of subjects, and an enthusiasm for new experiences.

A vibrant and richly varied environment

Children join the school from all over the world and from local schools. The transition to our child centred curriculum is straight forward.

Class sizes are small. In composing these, we balance the need to facilitate a vibrant exchange of ideas with giving each child the individual attention they deserve. Younger classes have a classroom assistant as well as a class teacher. We also have a dedicated Learning and Support Department which can offer 1:1 help whenever it’s needed.

Because we pride ourselves on providing a richly varied environment, we welcome pupils from around the world. Often their first language is not English, which is why we have our English as an Additional Language Department (EAL).

Younger Years

Gordonstoun Younger Years is a nurturing and friendly place for children to make the very best start to their school days.

Our highly qualified and experienced teachers are passionate about learning through discovery. We use the pizza oven to learn about fractions or head off to the beach to learn about ratios, and that’s only for maths!

Specialist teachers inspire a love of reading, music, French, science, sport and drama. Plus, our small class sizes ensure that every child has space and attention, to truly shine.
