The Gordonstoun family
Gordonstoun families are part of a global community who share the hope, belief and understanding of Kurt Hahn’s educational vision, uniquely delivered at Gordonstoun.
We are always keen to see you, at parent seminars, dinners, concerts, performances or the Summer open day. But we know this might not always be convenient, so we also welcome pre-arranged visits at any time.
Your first point of reference is the Junior or Senior School Parent Handbook, available via the iSams Parent App. To help, we have provided some of the most frequently requested documents below. Remember, your child’s House Parent will be able to assist you with anything more personal or individual.

Diversity |
---|
Gordonstoun Founder, Kurt Hahn, determined that Gordonstoun should be a diverse school. The principle was informed by the Seventh Law of Salem: ‘Free the sons of the wealthy and powerful from the enervating sense of privilege’He explained this as follows: “Decadence is not always an inexorable decree of nature, more often it is a wilful waste of splendid heritage. The “poor” rich girls and boys wholly thrown into each other's company are not given a chance of growing into men and women who can overcome. Let them share the experiences of an enthralling school life with sons and daughters of those who have to struggle for their existence. No school can build up a tradition of self discipline and vigorous but joyous endeavour, unless at least 30% of the children come from homes where life is not only simple but even hard.” Today, a carefully considered international, social and economic balance is maintained to remain true to his vision. For example, over a third of Gordonstoun students receive fee assistance. Also, in a school where almost 35% of our community identify as neurodiverse, we continuously adapt the way in which we work, to empower all our students and staff. |

At Gordonstoun, we understand that service needs come first. So we know how challenging it can be for MOD families, particularly when it comes to disruption caused by changes in location and different national and international curriculums.
